Sounds From My Cubicle.

burkhart-logoEvery morning I sit down in front of my computer, fire up my iTunes and start the day here at gkv. I am usually packing some new music with me — a long-awaited release, a new album that was recommended by a friend, some random covers performed by one of my favorite bands at an obscure mountain festival and maybe even something from Motown that has recently been remastered. So there is no telling what I’m going to be playing.

So, why you ask, does this guy have a blog entry? Well, a few times a day someone will stop by my cubicle and ask the question, “Who is this you are listening to?” Which always leads to the question, “Can you burn it for me?” After years of this, someone suggested posting what I am listening to for other people. Hence the name of this post, “Sounds from my cubicle.”

Mark “E” Everett is back with that sinister tone we love so much - and a much longer beard. The dark melodies carry beautiful story lines for our minds to follow. He sings like he means it. Again. This is classic Eels. “E” thinks he is a misunderstood boy. Listen to the Eels long enough, and there’s nothing you won’t understand about his perspective of self and the world around him. “Tremendous Dynamite,” “In My Dreams,” “Prizefighter” and “All the Beautiful Things” are some of the album’s highlights.

Well, those are the sounds coming from my cubicle right now. I’m sure they will change tomorrow.
